| Abstract | Within MITEC an advanced, efficient, integrated system for measuring, processing and evaluating oceanographic parameters - stratification, mixing, near surface microstructure and others, was designed, developed and constructed. The measurement of such processes is essential to determine near surface fluxes which are required for a correct description of physical and biological processes in the surface boundary layer of natural waters. Application studies were performed to demonstrate the potential of the developed system. The development of a methodology to investigate the influence of small-scale physical processes on the dynamics of marine ecosystems, and the responses of key organisms to varying oceanographic regimes, were specifically addressed. The high-resolution CTD measurements were carried out with the aim to study the role of meso-scale hydrophysical processes on the dynamics of marine ecosystem. The measurement campaign was performed at the entrance area of the Gulf of Finland in 1998 from July 13 to July 23 and in 1999 from July 20 to July 28. In 1998 overall 4 surveys and in 1999 3 surveys were performed in the study area (about 1278 and 1043 CTD profiles respectively). The CTD data are quality controlled. | |||||||||
