| Abstract | The general aim of the project „Baltic“ was to study the variability hydro-physical processes of different scale and their impact on the hydro- biological and chemical fields in the entire Baltic Sea aquatic area. Special attention was paid to the meso-scale processes like eddies, temperature-salinity fronts, coastal jets etc. Some efforts were done to reveal the processes behind the water and material exchange between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea and between the Baltic Sea sub-basins. The field measurements (mostly the CTD casts and the current measurements at mooring stations) had been performed in the years 1978 to 1990. Afterwards, the CTD measurements performed in the frame of the Estonian monitoring programme supported the aforementioned study. Altogether, more than 10 thousand CTD profiles have been collected by the Estonian major research vessels “Aju-Dag” and “A.Veimer”, many other ships also contributed to this project. | |||||||||
