| Abstract | MBES Lower Danube River, NM 54.5-53.3. This study presents high-resolution multibeam bathymetry data acquired along the Lower Danube River upstream from the Danube Delta, specifically focusing on the Isaccea town segment, ajdacent to Noviodunum fortress between nautical miles 54.5 and 53.3. Conducted as part of the NatureFirst project (www.naturefirst.info), this mapping effort aimed to characterize anadromous fish habitats especially for sturgeons. The multibeam data was coregistered with sidescan sonar imagery and also referenced to an RTK base station to provide a comprehensive understanding of the riverbed morphology and substrate composition. The data (DTM) is referenced to the BLACK SEA 75 (known as MareaNeagra75 or MN75) reference system altitudes. This integrated approach enabled the identification of key habitat features such as depth variations, channel morphology, presence of submerged structures and sediment distribution patterns, all crucial for understanding the spawning, feeding, and migration behavior of anadromous fish species in this dynamic fluvial environment. The resulting data contributes valuable information for the conservation and management of these ecologically important species within the Danube Delta and to meet NatureFirst project's objectives. |
