AbstractBathymetry data was acquired during R/V Maria S. Merian cruise MSM75 in the north Atlantic between 29.06.2018 and 08.08.2018. This cruise aimed a better understanding of the Reykjanes Ridge by combining geological with biological sampling as well as high resolution mapping with detailed and targeted visual observations and sampling of volcanic and hydrothermal sites along the ridge. Citation: Paul Wintersteller (seafloor-imaging@marum.de) as responsible party for bathymetry raw data ingest and approval. During the MSM75 cruise, cruise the Kongsberg EM712 multi-beam echo-sounder was used. The EM712 uses a nominal sounding frequency of 75 kHz. With a transducer configuration of 0.5°/0.5° this system has 256 beams with up to 400 soundings. For further information consult https://www.km.kongsberg.com/. The survey speed during this cruise varied between 8 and 12 kn. The ping rates varied depending on water depth from 0.5 up to 4.5 Hz in the shallower regions. While the EM712 was the primary echosounder, bad weather periods had a strong effect on the data quality. PI: M. Le Saout

QI_Lineage2024-04-04Postprocessing and products were conducted by Teledyne Reson, responsible person Paul Wintersteller (paul.winterstelle@teledyne.com). The open source software MB-System (Caress, D. W., and D. N. Chayes, MB-System: Mapping the Seafloor, https://www.mbari.org/products/research-software/mb-system, 2017) was utilized for this purpose. Tide and sound velocity profiles were applied to the MSM75 data; there were no corrections for roll, pitch and heave applied. Using mbeditviz, artefacts were cleaned manually. NetCDF (GMT) grids of the edited data as well as statistics were created with mbgrid. The published bathymetric EM712 grid of the cruise MSM75 has a resolution of 35 m. No total propagated uncertainty (TPU) has been calculated to gather vertical or horizontal accuracy. A higher resolution is, at least partly, achievable. The DTMs projections are given in Geographic coordinate system Lat/Lon; Geodetic Datum: WGS84. All grids produced will be made retrievable through the PANGAEA archive (www.pangaea.de)..
