AbstractCruise MNG0109 was carried out on R/V Urania under the frame of the ADRICOSM-STAR and MED-POL projects in the Montenegro coastal and marginal zones, inclusive of Kotor Bay (Boka Kotorska), in the southwestern Adriatic Sea. The cruise was planned to continue the systematic mapping of the Montenegro shelf areas initiated in 2008 with cruise ADR0208. Data included bathymetric collection by multibeam and CHIRP sub-bottom profiles, sediment sampling by box-corer and gravity corer in front of the Bojana River and South of Bar. Hydrological measurements included CTD vertical pro?les (pressure, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, light transmission, ?uorimetry). The full report of the cruise, along with detail of the ship tracks for all the different data types, is available at: http://www.ismar.cnr.it/prodotti/reports-campagne/2000-2009. The vessel was set-up for data acquisition and navigation with the PDS-2000 software by RESON, interfacing by a multiserial and Ethernet link several instruments, among them the DGPS (Fugro), the Atlas-Krupp Deso-25 single-beam echosounder, the MAHRS MRU and the meteorological station. A Kongsberg processor running the SIS software, collected the multibeam data, integrating a SEAPATH MRU, compass and DGPS. The MBES was the 70 kHz, 400 1x2°, 150°aperture EM 710 model by Kongsberg. The sonar head was positioned on the ship’s keel using a V-shaped steel frame. A Sound Velocity probe at the keel 1 m above the Sonar Head was interfaced directly to the MBES processor, thus providing the necessary real-time data for the beam-forming. CTD casts were normally used for input of the sound velocity pro?le to the system. The SIS (EM-710) was able to build real-time DTMs at resolution of 20 and 5 m during the acquisition of the surveyed areas that are identified with the multibeam coverage polygons provided as GML objects.
