AbstractThe scientific aims of the survey were to (i) undertake a hydrographic survey to International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) Order 1a standard. This composite dataset is comprised of areas surveyed as part of the ongoing Infomar project (formerly Irish National Seabed Survey), a joint seabed mapping project between the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Marine Institute. During July and August 2013, INFOMAR, Ireland’s seabed mapping programme conducted a near-shore seabed survey in the Shannon Estuary. The R.V. Keary, the R.V. Geo and M.V. Cosantóir Bradán were used in this survey. The R.V. Keary used a Kongsberg Simrad EM2040 multibeam echosounder. M.V. Cosantóir Bradán was equipped with a Reson 7101 shallow-water MBES system. The RV Geo was equipped with a SEA SWATHplus sonar system. Depths were reduced to Lowest Astronomical Tide using the VORF model while sound velocity corrections from CTD casts were applied in CARIS. Survey work was carried out to International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) Order 1A and Special Order standard, especially for shallow water depths and areas significant for navigation. Please reference the INFOMAR projects when the data is used in publications & presentations. Visit http://www.infomar.ie for more information.
