| Abstract | From 2000 onwards, electronic measurements of temperature and salinity have been performed from the NIOZ sampling jetty (53°00.110_ N 4°47.340_ E), located in the Marsdiep tidal inlet between the North Sea and the Wadden Sea. The electronic device is an Aanderaa thermosalinegraph. The measurements are taken at a frequency of 12 Hz at about 1 m below low-water level. About every 2 weeks, the instrument is cleaned and calibration measurements are taken. The temperature is measured using a Testo 110 thermometer with a precision of 0.1 oC, just below the sea surface. Salinity of a filtered sample of 200 ml taken just below the sea surface is determined using a Guildline Autosal 8400B in the laboratory.Hereafter, the data is calibrated; details on the calibration procedure can be found in the NIOZ report (Nauw, 2014). From the original data at 12 Hz, the minute-averaged data is derived. Subsequently, the running median is taken with a window of 1 minute. Half hourly data are subsampled from these data. From these measurements, the 8 AM (UTC) data were subsampled and can be downloaded here.
