| Abstract | This area was surveyed as part of the ongoing Infomar project (formerly Irish National Seabed Survey), a joint seabed mapping project between the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Marine Institute. The Marine Institute vessel, the R.V. Celtic Voyager was used as the survey platform. The scientific aims of the survey were to: (i) Undertake a Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) hydrographic survey to International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) Order 1a standard. (ii) Acquire Sub Bottom Profiler (SBP) and magnetometer data to investigate the sub seabed geology. (iii) Acquire groundtruthing data from pre-defined stations in previous year’s survey areas to facilitate seabed classification. A Kongsberg Simrad EM3002 high resolution shallow water multibeam system was used for acquisition of hydrographic data, with a Kongsberg Simrad EA400 singlebeam providing additional depth data. Positioning was provided by C-Nav 3050 Differential Global Navigation Satellite System (DGNSS) and these data were integrated with inertial measurement units by a Seatex Motion Reference Unit (MRU) to give real time heading, heave, pitch and roll, position and velocity of the MBES system. A pinger source SBP operating at 3.5 kHz was used for shallow sub-surface data acquisition. A Coda Octopus DA2000 acted as the topside acquisition system. Raw data was logged in native coda format along with tiff images of each survey line. Positioning data was provided from C-Nav DNSS and MRU data was fed directly from the Seatex MRU. Quality Integrated Navigation System (QINSy) software was used to provide positioning data to the survey sensors. Sound Velocity data for input to the echosounders was acquired using a Valeport Midas SVX2 Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) instrument. MBES and SBES data were processed onboard using Caris Hips & Sips version 7.1. C-Nav GPS data were used for the tide solution. Water depths have been reduced to chart datum (VORF LAT). The Hydrographic component of this survey has been conducted to IHO Order 1 Multibeam standards. Please reference the INFOMAR projects when the data is used in publications & presentations.
