AbstractBetween 13th June and 20th June 2012, INFOMAR (Integrated Mapping For the Sustainable Development of Ireland’s Marine Resource), Ireland’s seabed mapping programme undertook a shallow water survey off the coast of Bunmahon, Co. Waterford, (One of 19th Century Ireland’s premier copper mining districts.) in support of the INTERREG funded, Atlanterra Project. The Atlanterra project has designated the Bunmahon Area a Geo-park and has built up a strong regional profile for the Copper Coast Geo-Park brand-name. The inshore survey work carried out during the KRY12_02 Survey Leg is intended to support educational, tourism and community related activities and facilities as well as producing standard INFOMAR hydrographic datasets. Survey work was carried out by the state research vessel R.V. Keary. Survey equipment includes a Kongsberg Maritime EM3002D multibeam echosounder, an EA 400 Kongsberg Maritime singlebeam echosounder & an Edgetech 3200XS chirp. POS-MV Navigation (Motion, Heading and Position) data was logged continuously during survey operations in a standard Applanix binary format. One Leica GNSS base-station was used during KRY12_02 to log shore-based satellite observations throughout the survey. Real Time sound velocity corrections (At the transducer heads) were provided to the EM3002D system through a Valeport SMART probe. During survey operations water-column environmental data was acquired using an YSI “Castaway” CTD. Survey line planning onboard the RV Keary is carried out using QPS QINSy software. Position information is relayed to several acquisition systems from QINSy software. Depths were reduced to Lowest Astronomical Tide using the VORF model. Survey work was carried out to International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) Order 1A and Special Order standard, especially for shallow water depths and areas significant for navigation.
