| Abstract | The Sredetska’87 expedition was carried out under the Bulgarian National Program for regional study of the Western Black Sea basin by Bulgarian Navy Hydrograph Vessel “XK – 401” from 08 to 18 June, 1987. The main goals were to investigate in general the central part of Bulgarian Black Sea shelf and upper slope and the Emine submarine canyon in more details. As the paleo delta of paleo Sredetska River was discovered, more profiles were shot to study its area extend and morphology. The survey consists of 20 lines with a total length of about 480 km and the principal data set is 17 lines orientated in N–S direction and three regional profiles running from west to east. The survey was performed out by sparker with a linear group of 5 electrodes emitting impulses with energy of 5.0 kJ. It was used 7 m streamer with 27 hydrophone couples connected in parallel. The reflected signals were band-passed within the 70 - 400 Hz band and one second was recorded both on wet-paper Inei-P graphic recorder and dry-paper EPC-4800 one. The average penetration is from 0.5 to 0.75 sec bellow seabed. The main achievements of this high-resolution survey were discovery the buried delta of paleo Sredetska River. Navigation was undertaken by BRAS radio-navigation system, with accuracy between 75 m and 150 m. The sparker sections are available as scanned images. |
