AbstractThe Kolokita’85 cruise was performed as a pipeline survey for Burgas Refinery by the IO-BAS onboard MV “V. Kolarov” from 17 to 30 June, 1985. The survey area is a narrow about 3,500 m zone crossing the shelf in W-E direction. The belt starts in front of Cape Kolokita and covers water depths from 25 m to about 300 m. The dataset consists of 10 lines with total lenght of about 285 km of shallow seismic and side-scan sonar observations performed simultaneously. Three of the lines (lines 3, 6 and 10) run within the entire polygon, others terminate on the half distance in water depth of about 50-60 m. Shallow seismic survey was carried out by “sparker” as sound source and 7 m length streamer with a group of 25 couples of hydrophones connected in parallel. The sparker operated with energy of 0.9 KJ and a source with 45 electrodes. The reflected signals were recorded on a wet-paper graphic recorder type “FAK” within a frequency range of 300 Hz to 1,100 Hz with a central frequency of about 750 Hz. The recorded length was 0.5 sec with but the penetration is almost zero on all lines up to water depts of about 70-90 m because of massive spreading of Holocene gas charged sediments type “Roquefort” in this area. An average penetration of about 0.2 sec bellow seabed with a vertical resolution of about one meter is recorded on three long running lines, which are available as scanned images. Side-scan observations were performed by “Relief – 500” home made system operating with 100 kHz in a range of 2 by 200 m The sonograms are available as paper rolls and are combined in a mosaic. Position fixing was undertaken by BRAS radio-navigation system, with an accuracy from 25 m near the shore to 50 m at the shelf break. The sparker records are available on paper.
