AbstractThe Sinemoretz’84 expedition of the IO-BAS was performed under the Bulgarian National Program for regional study of the Western Black Sea basin by the Bulgarian ship MV “Vasil Kolarov” in the time period from 20 November to 05 December, 1984. It has a reconnaissance character investigating the south Bulgarian self area with several lines from near shore to the west to the shelf break to the east. The survey consist of 10 lines with a total length of 280 km. The survey was carried out by “sparker” with an area group of 42 electrodes emitting impulses with energy of 0.8 kJ and central frequency of about 450 Hz. It was used 7 m streamer with 27 hydrophone couples connected in parallel. The reflected signals were bandpassed within the 270 - 700 Hz band and one second was recorded on the wet-paper “Inei-P” graphic recorder. The average penetration is from 0.5 to 0.75 sec bellow seabed. The main achievements of this high-resolution survey were the localization of edges of the regional acoustic shadow due to development of the seabed gas charged sediments in the central part of the shelf as well as revealing the structure of the Quaternary sediments in the peripheral shelf depression. Navigation was undertaken by BRAS radio-navigation system, with accuracy between 50 m and 75 m. The sparker sections are available as scanned images.
